Leo XIV writes: “Pope Francis offered the universal Church a luminous message of hope regarding conjugal love and family life, which was the fruit of three years of synodal discernment [...]: the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia.” He thanks the Lord for “the stimulus that has encouraged reflection and pastoral conversion in the Church” and asks God “for the courage to persevere on this path”. Swedish Christian couple Daniel and Bianca Samson have suffered another setback in their fight to bring their two daughters home: The European Court of Human Rights declined to hear their case, ruling it inadmissible. The couple has been separated from their children for over three years, since 2022. The case began after their eldest daughter made - and later retracted - a false abuse claim following an argument over not being allowed to use a phone and wear makeup. Prosecutors found no evidence of abuse, yet the children were still removed. Authorities later pointed to the family’s church attendance and parenting choices as signs of “religious extremism.” The daughters themselves have pleaded to be reunited with their parents. Reports say their mental and physical health has worsened in state care, including suicide attempts. He succeeded his brother John in the see where he had previously been archdeacon. He was an advisor and confidante of several Visigoth kings, including Chindasuinth, whose son Recceswinth he recommended be installed as associate king. He wrote a life of San Millan. He is reported to have encouraged Isidore of Seville in his encyclopaedic ambitions, and to have had a hand in the revision of his works. He was present at the councils of Toledo in 633, 636, and 638 and he responded on behalf of the Iberian clergy to Pope Honorius I's charge that they were neglectful of their duties. Laicised priest Eleuterio Vásquez, known in Chiclayo as “Lute”, was photographed while celebrating a parish anniversary on March 8, reports InfoVaticana.com. He is standing next to his friend, the priest Edward Tocto. Three women accuse Lute of sexually abusing them when they were minors, between the ages of nine and eleven. He allegedly took them to a rural mountain area, undressed in front of them, and engaged in sexual touching. Lute has admitted to these “sins” but has tried to minimize them by claiming that there was no penetration. Rev Edward Tocto is a canon lawyer and served as the defense attorney of Lute. The Vatican appeals court has declared the trial of Cardinal Angelo Becciu invalid, overturning his 2023 conviction and ordering a full retrial to begin June 22. In a 16-page ruling, the court found on Tuesday procedural errors by both prosecutors and Pope Francis. It did not rule on Cardinal Becciu’s guilt or innocence, but concluded the original proceedings were flawed. The indictment was nullified for two main reasons. First, Francis issued four secret decrees granting prosecutors expanded powers, including surveillance. These decrees were never published and were disclosed to the defense only shortly before trial. The court ruled that at least one decree effectively functioned as law and, because it was not made public, was legally invalid.
