Leo XIV Appoints Bishop Who Assisted During Strickland’s Removal

Today, Leo XIV has appointed Monsignor John Gomez as Bishop of Diocese of Laredo, USA.
Born in Colombia in 1975, Monsignor Gomez is a priest of the Diocese of Tyler, a canon lawyer trained at the Gregorian in Rome.
He has little discernible public media footprint: no notable interviews, personal social-media presence, podcasts, or published ideological essays appear readily available online.
Bishop Joseph Strickland appointed him in 2015 as vicar general of Tyler, Texas.
The interesting wrinkle is that Monsignor Gomez remained after Bishop Strickland was removed: He served as delegate of the apostolic administrator from 2023–2025, then vicar general again under Bishop Gregory Kelly from 2025.
CatholicVote reported in June 2023 that Monsignor Gomez helped organize meetings between the Vatican visitators and diocesan clergy, religious, and laity during the Apostolic Visitation.
The Apostolic Visitation was requested by the new prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, then-Archbishop Robert …थप

Padre Guilherme Replaced at Catholic Event After Criticism

Despite originally being announced as one of the event’s featured attractions, Portuguese priest and DJ Guilherme Peixoto will no longer perform at the opening-night concert of Rouen’s 2026 Jeanne d’Arc celebrations on 14 May.
The Archdiocese of Rouen, France, said that Padre Guilherme had requested to postpone his appearance. This followed public criticism of his inclusion in the festival programme. Critics questioned the appropriateness of a priest performing electronic music during celebrations dedicated to Joan of Arc.
He will be replaced by French DJ Charles B, who will be accompanied by a local opening act. Unlike Padre Guilherme, the replacement performers are not clergy and their performance is not framed by religion.

Migrant rapist gets a trivial 6-month sentence because he’s too ‘low-IQ’ – Allah's Willing Executioners

Medforth AI
A 21-year-old migrant rapist, who assaulted and violated a 13-year-old girl, has just been given extreme leniency in Norway because the court has found him too stupid to be held accountable as a rapist should—he’s been sentenced to just six months in jail, and I have to wonder if he’ll get out early.
According to an
article at Remix News, Syrian man Abdelmonem Abdelrazak Al-Yousef, who doesn’t speak any Norwegian, tried to deny that he ever met the girl, but the cops found his semen all over the asphalt of the bicycle parking area where the assault occurred, and spotted him on surveillance video. My kids have a phrase for situations like this: “caught in 4K.”
Naturally, the court rejected Al-Yousef’s defense, “noting it was entirely lacking in credibility”—DNA evidence and video footage tend to be conclusive! But, after forensic psychiatric experts evaluated Al-Yousef, they concluded that “he had a mild intellectual disability,” determining his IQ to be somewhere …

Biden Admin Targeted Traditional Christians, Tracked Catholic Priests

The United States Department of Justice released on April 30 a 548-page report on how the Biden administration targeted believing Christians, including traditional Catholics.
The report concludes that the Biden administration “zealously pursued actions to limit Christians’ ability to act in accordance with their faith,” particularly those holding traditional biblical views on abortion, sexuality, and gender.
Among the report’s findings is that the FBI’s Richmond Field Office treated traditional Catholics as potential extremists, including churches associated with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X.
The FBI expanded its scrutiny after interviewing Xavier Louis Lopez, a self-described “radical traditional Catholic Clerical Fascist” convicted of possessing destructive devices. Agents opened a formal law-enforcement “Guardian profile” on his church and interviewed his priest, despite the parish having no involvement in his crimes.
Agents also tracked the priest’s jail visits to Lopez …थप

Conrad Schmitt Studios have provided us with yet another 'before and after' project, this time coming out of the parish church of St. Francis Borgia in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The present church building was originally constructed in the year 1870 and over the century it underwent at least two renovations; one around the mid-century period, and another following the Second Vatican Council. In the mid-century period it obtained a renovation which essentially modified the church's altars and decoration programme to something more akin to the fads and fashions of the twentieth century liturgical movement; what came in the latter part of the twentieth century was far more radical with decorative paintwork being white-washed over, altars stripped out, and the sanctuary ordering completely changed.
That is the particular face of the church that constitutes what came immediately before the restorative works …

The calm, the coherence and the logic of St. Joseph

by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
March, 19th 1976
“A Roman and Apostolic Catholic, the author of this text submits himself with filial devotion to the traditional teaching of Holy Church. However, if by an oversight anything is found in it at variance with that teaching, he immediately and categorically rejects it.”
The words “Revolution” and “Counter-Revolution” are employed here in the sense given to them by Prof. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira in his book Revolution and Counter-Revolution, the first edition of which was published in the monthly Catolicismo, Nº 100, April 1959.
What was the occasion in Saint Joseph’s life when he practiced logic to a heroic degree?
It was the well known episode when he saw that Our Lady had conceived a child of which he was not the father. The Gospel mentions the matter. He was faced with an absurd situation.
On one hand, it was evident to him that Our Lady was a saint because her sanctity shone forth in every way. However, on the other hand, he faced …थप

Tuesday 29th April 1913 Negro Watchman is Accused by Slain Girls Stepfather
Tuesday April 29th, 1913
That Mary Phagan never left the factory after she entered it at 12:15 o'clock Saturday the day of her murder and that she was killed and her body dragged into the basement by the negro night watchman Newt Lee now in jail is the firm belief of the child's stepfather W. J. Coleman and other members of her family.
As for Arthur Mullinax former streetcar conductor held on suspicion Mr. Coleman told a Georgian reporter he thought him innocent of the crime. He was also very doubtful if J. M. Gantt ex bookkeeper for the pencil factory where the girl worked had anything to do with her murder or knew anything about it.
If the negro watchman did not kill the child, how would it have been impossible for him to hear her screams going on in the building? he asked. A livery stable man next door heard them and it would have been much easier for the watchman to. If the black did not do it himself then …

Carmelite community of Campiégne martyrs to close: The historic Carmelite community of Compiègne, which is now based in Jonquières, France, is closing. The six remaining nuns have announced that they will be leaving due to the ageing nature of the community and a lack of new vocations. Founded in 1641, the community is best known for the sixteen Carmelite martyrs of Compiègne who were executed during the French Revolution in 1794 and canonised by Pope Francis in 2024. The monastery in Jonquières has been home to the community since 1992. The nuns are leaving over the coming months, not all at once.

Carmelite community of Campiègne martyrs to close

The six remaining cloistered Carmelite nuns in Jonquières, France, are closing their historic community, ending a 400-year legacy of prayer ... and martyrdom.
It's a sad consequence of the lack of religious vocations. Bishop Jacques Benoit-Gonnin of Beauvais, Noyon, and Senlis (France) announced on April 21 the closure of the Compiègne
Carmelite community, located some six miles from the original site, in Jonquières, since 1992.
"As age advances, numbers decrease, vocations are slow in coming, and external reinforcements are impossible to find, our Carmelite Sisters of Compiègne have decided to close their community," the bishop explained. Six nuns currently remain at the monastery. They will leave gradually over the coming months.
Famous martyrs
The Carmel of the Annunciation, founded in Compiègne in 1641 and following the Rule of St. Teresa of Avila, was the 53rd foundation in France at the time. It had a unique impact, giving the Church 16 holy martyrs.
These 16 nuns were expelled …

German Bishops Reform Priestly Formation, Warn Against "Religious Fundamentalism"

On April 28, the German bishops published a new ‘Ratio Nationalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis’, a 203-page document reforming priestly formation in Germany.
It replaces the previous 111-page guidelines from 2003. Approved by the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Clergy on March 11, the new norms are binding for Germany’s 27 dioceses.
Long-Term Decline
The reform comes amid a long-term collapse in priestly vocations. Germany ordained 557 priests in 1962 and 303 in 1970. By 2015, that number had fallen to 58, and by 2025 to just 25, the lowest figure on record.
At the same time, the number of lay pastoral workers increased from roughly 5,200 in 1990 to 7,516 in 2021, and include today transvestites.
Psychological Screening
The new Ratio includes expanded sections on psychology, abuse prevention, sexuality, synodality, and pastoral practice.
It mandates psychological screening for candidates and places new emphasis on emotional maturity, boundaries, and abuse prevention.
The document explicitly …थप

Bishop Eleganti Wrote to Leo XIV about Homosexual Clergy

Bishop Marian Eleganti wrote to Pope Leo XIV about widespread homosexuality among priests and its significance in the abuse crisis in the Church. He mentioned this on Marian-Eleganti.ch on April 24:
"All church studies on abuse show a disproportionately high number of male victims. It does little good to turn a blind eye to this."
He also drew attention to the numerous cases of sexual abuse occurring outside the Church, emphasising that society is primarily focused on and scandalised by those within the clergy.

The church Saint-Cyriaque in Montenach, France, was severely damaged by fire on April 30. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

In the Philippines, we have this deeply beautiful tradition, Flores de Mayo, sometimes called Flores de Maria, culminating in the Santacruzan. At its heart, it’s simple: an entire month dedicated to honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Not just externally, but through prayer, devotion, and a kind of Marian culture that used to shape entire communities.
And then you get to the Santacruzan, the grand finale. A lot of people forget this part, but it’s not even just about Our Lady directly, it’s about the finding of the True Cross by St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine. So what you have is this rich, layered Catholic tradition: history, devotion, theology, symbolism. It’s not shallow. It’s actually pretty profound.
But somewhere along the way, things shifted.
What used to be an act of devotion started turning into something else. Now, for many people, the highlight isn’t the meaning, it’s the spectacle. The gowns, the styling, the presentation. Who wore what, who looked the best …थप

Vatican recommends Catholic families in crisis compost and a rain gauge: The Vatican has published on August 27 the handbook, Integral Ecology in the Life of the Family, urging Catholic families to adopt environmentally focused practices such as composting, collecting rainwater, and monitoring rainfall as part of an “ecological conversion.” Issued jointly by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, the text presents care for creation and sustainable living as integral to Christian family life and holiness.

Catholic families in crisis: the Vatican recommends compost and a rain gauge

Vatican City – The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life have jointly published an eighty-page volume entitled Integral Ecology in the Life of the Family. The text, presented by Cardinals Michael Czerny S.J. and Kevin Joseph Farrell, is offered as a practical handbook intended to “inspire and encourage families to adopt attitudes and practices that promote the teachings of the Encyclical Laudato Si’”. The stated intention is a noble one; the result, however, raises serious questions about the pastoral priorities of the Holy See in an age marked by a crisis of the family which is, first and foremost, a crisis of faith, an economic crisis and an educational crisis.
An agenda dressed up as the Gospel

The structure of the document gives the game away: after a brief section on the “foundations”, the handbook devotes seven thematic chapters to goals which, as the introduction itself openly admits, are “taken from Laudato Si’
